Stronk WoWs Multicore

Source: http://world-of-ru.livejournal.com/3788925.html

Hello warriors,

remember how Wargaming said that World of Warships would use multicore support? Well, let's have a look at the CPU core load of the current beta client. After all, multicore CPU's should rock with this new BigWorld iteration, no?

Well.... no. The game basically still uses only two cores, good old BigWorld. Still... it's a good game. Let's see how it turns out.

  1. Wtf. Everyone shouts for multi core support. Wows has it yet you still complain about it???!!! What is wrong with this community?

    1. Yeah, "multi" is more than one. People are stupid.

    2. I think people just expect multicore support to divide workload equally between cores: 50%, 25% or 12.5% each depending on your core count.

But that's not how it works. I don't think I've seen any application that does such a thing.

    3. I have half a processor doing nothing. If WoT had quad core support it could use an extra two 1.5GHz core. WoWs plays at 30fps while WoT plays at 12fps

    4. I believe folks are looking for it to be truly multithreaded, instead of two monolithic threads.

  2. Technically it has multicore support. It uses more than one core. So WG is right. :P

  3. "The game basically still uses only two cores"
    "Not multicore"

Pick one - two cores is also multicore, as dualcore is multicore :)

Also I am not sure it actually doesn't use more, it can have some small processes on other cores. Has somebody done processes check deeper in? I would be interested in those.

  4. Two cores should be, and is more than enough support for the game. I don't understand why people think they need to utilize more.

And it is a damn good game :) Still has a few interface updates to go and player support features. Other than that, it's pretty much ready for release. I'm surprised they manage to build the game this fast

    2. A truly multithreaded engine would leave folks with older quad- and hex- cores in a better position. They may not have enough grunt to run it on two cores without bottlenecking their graphics card, but their build may work fine for literally everything except WOT.

  5. Multicore implies that it uses all cores, otherwise they should just call it dual core support. But I think that two cores are sufficient anyway.

    1. If you really want to be cocky about it, dual is already more then one therefore, multiple, and noone said a multi-core program / game MUST use all cores available. Some do, some don't , yet it's still multi-core .. and is waaaay better performing then WoT ever did.

  6. Sorry Rita, but when you already start in your first days of this Blog to constantly flame Wargaming without any real reason, there is no need to follow this Blog anymore. You spread more hate against Wargaming than SS did ... while SS at least had some good arguments! Your posts are simply trying to throw shit at them.

    1. And you know what? WoWs actualy uses ALL Cores! I have 20% load on EVERY core when i play WoWs ...

But i guess simply posting a fake Benchmark and spreading some hate is far easier than to look for yourself ...

    2. Hahaha. Your'e working for Wargaming man? The only one that hate here is YOU. You and only you.

    3. Please plitzkrieg, you are going to have to try a LOT harder than that if you are going to achieve whatever task you have taken on.

Better yet, go and learn how to say' Do you want fries with that?' Likely to work out better for you, your poor, sad, little individual...

    4. Other than you i am actually an alpha-tester .... i can start up the game and look at the cpu-load ... guess what: all my 4 cores are evenly loaded! please for the love of god ... just try it out for yourself!

    5. I have an apple core if that helps...... no? ok, but it floats my boat.

  7. 2015. Game that can't use more than two cores, and people in comments here see no problem in this little fact.

    LOL

    OK.

Better go and build that WG Shrine so you can pray to SerB 5 times a day, or whatever it is you wanna do.

    1. Why would you want a CBT game to use 6 cores ? It's still under development, and the 2 cores do the work just fine. It's stable and its doing what it should during a Closed Beta Test ... For the Release version, things will probably change.

    2. Butthurt WarThunder Fanboy. Launch the game for yourself and look how many Cores are actually in use ...

    3. What if it can use more than two cores, but since it doesn't need to (50 - 60% is still nothing on those quad+ cores and the last one is dual-core HT), it doesn't move processes to other cores? It's a possibility, getting the processes spread across all cores evenly might not be the best option.

    4. My point exactly, according to the pic shown above, it seems like the main process is being run by one core, while the smaller things get "outsourced" to a second core, thus increasing performance. Which is a good way to make sure the system is stable, yet it gets no performance issues.

    5. Do you actually play games? Multi implies more than one and few games utilize all your cores... Get a better CPU.

    6. why should I get a 3GHz dual core when I already have a 1.5GHz quad core. (Ideally I'd have a 3GHz quad core, but hey)

  8. Btw, Rita, you forgot to mention something ... yes .. and this is somewhat brings me to lose some faith in your work ...

As anyone can see here , ( this image was just below the one Rita posted ) AMD processors seem to work prettys well with multicoring WoWs ...

  9. The game does not really need 3 or 4 or 5 or 6 or 7 or 8 cores to work well.

Also, 2 core = multi core support.

It is no Metro Last Light or Survarium, true, but dont knock it too much. It is in CBT. Early CBT.

  10. wote: "The game basically still uses only two cores"

actually .. no; the BigWorld engine is still single threaded - that spike you see in other core is Windows's own services

  11. Oh i just love when playing wot i drive in the city and my 40 fps turns to 17 fps. BugWorld at its finest.

    ReplyDelete
  12. It is a fact that bugworld cant take advantage of a powerfull cpu and graphicscard. There is a reason not any well known game uses this engine. and again, there is single, dual quad and multicore out there. If WoWs supports two cores it is fine in a time when 4-8 cores are standard. WoT is from a time when 4-6 cores had been standard. Hooray

    ReplyDelete
  13. Well... somewhat underwhelming but at least it's better than monocore.

    ReplyDelete
  14. no multicore? can someone explain the 1st, 3rd and 5th core then?

anycase.. fx6300 with r9 280x, maxxed out settings result in rock solid 75fps, no drops..

  15. Multi = 2 is more than 1 .... :)
