30.06.2015 Q&A

 Here it is

- According to Storm, decreasing terrain resistance by 20 percent has about the same effect on vehicle mobility as if the horsepower of the vehicle was increased by 20 percent;
- Storm answering why developers (when buffing or nerfing) are usually conducted by changing terrain resistance: changing the vehicle engines requires a special kind of conversions in the game engine, making it difficult to do just so without risking potential bugs, terrain resistance is much easier;
- Terrain resistance buff is according to Storm effectively the same as engine horsepower buff;
- Storm regarding a number of bugs in common test: "So the test should be without bugs? What would be its purpose then?"
- Storm reacting on a claim that shadows reduce FPS in WoT too much: "There are no shadows in any game without performance cost. They always reduce FPS. In all games."

I'm done for today and cleared for take off:

Jingles: Interview with Victor Kislyi

Hello Warriors,

this will interest you:

"On the second day of Tankfest at the Bovington Tank museum, the Wargaming.net Community Contributors were invited to pose some questions to Victor Kislyi, Wargamings' Chief Executive Officer. Victor spent an hour answering our questions, and rather than subject you to an entire hour-long video, I'll be posting the entire Q&A session in bite-sized chunks over the next few days."

Have to say that I enjoyed meeting Victor Kislyi. :)

Source.

Hello Warriors,

like on NA, the RU server will have chance to earn or rent a FV201 (A45) from July 1, 9:00 (GMT) to August 1, 8:30 (GMT) .
The process is pretty much the same as the North American server.

Meanwhile on EU, we get sweet F*** all (someone is rubbing his British expressions on me). Oh wait! We got the TOG II Rental! *smirk*

Before tomatoes get thrown at EU, I have to point out that even though they have some level of independence, they do not have full control of the events, it has been like this for some time. So aim at Minsk.

WoWS: Staff Explains

Hello Warriors,

according to Ev1n , a WoWS EU Staff member, has this to say about the download being available to all:

You’ve probably noticed we have enabled public registrations for World of Warships. To prevent misinterpretation by our community, we’d like to set a few things straight.

  I can now download and play the game. Is this a mistake?
No, it is a planned capacity test, congrats to getting in! If we reach our planned capacity for this test, we will disable registrations again.

So is this Open Beta already? Why there was no announcement?There was no announcement because we’re not in OBT yet, but as you can guess it’s getting closer and closer. Stay tuned and keep an eye on our web resources!

If I buy Doubloon/Premium ship packages in the Premium shop, will I be able to keep them?
Yes, the Premium shop goods you buy from this moment on will carry over to the OBT when it starts, as well as later through the game’s official release.

What about the regular ships? Will there be any more wipes?
No, the latest wipe during the deployment of update 0.4.0 was the last one we had planned, so whatever progress you get now you shall keep.

Can I stream / make videos / post on Forums about the game and its contents?
Yes, the game is not under NDA anymore. If you got in, feel free to enjoy and discuss!

*sigh...* Still don't understand what's the difficulty for not announcing this information on the portal.

Lets do this!

Of Cranes and Guns

Author: Vollketten

In 1940 Britain was fighting for its life and a multitude of good and not so good ideas were put forward to develop new armored vehicles to meet the needs of home defense and the British Army overseas. Lincolnshire was a hub of development at the time from a variety of companies and one of them was the firm of Ruston-Bucyrus. Founded in 1930 the firm was a merger of the Lincolnshire firm of Ruston and Hornby (who had already had some experience with track laying vehicles in WW1 during the development of early British tanks) and the American firm of Bucyrus-Erie of Bucyrus, Ohio.

They specialized in vehicles for earth-moving and excavation mainly track based although there were a couple of walking machines. By 1940 they were already placed under contract to build some British Cruiser tanks but they also tried to develop their own expertise in cranes for a more military use and the vehicle chosen to prototype the design was an old rusting RB-10 grab crane.

RB-10 Grab Crane

29.06.2015 Q&A

 Here it is:

- Storm confirms: 9.9 does not bring the ghost shell fix
- Storm confirms: Mauschen will possibly not be replacing the VK4502B but for now there is no final decision on that yet
- Same goes for pen nerf (nothing planned for now)
- The decision whether to replace Mauschen or not will take place "in days", according to Storm it is a "political" decision
- Mammut will not be used as Mauschen replacement for the VK4502B in any case
- Removing further normalization would not help the armor situation at all, it is too small as it is
- Developers are working on new maps
- There will be more versions of "Domination" yet
- The Mauschen will be in second 9.9 test round after all
- The Mauschen removal post had a note that it was Anton "Evilly" Pankov's decision to remove it. Anton Pankov however states that it was certainly not only his.

And the daily, if the fake Krokodil ever comes to WoT this is how I will treat them when driving my A39 Tortoise:

Tank Fest: TOG II Rental

Hello Warriors,

this info is not particularly new but is still active (and is in my standards still doable).

In EU, until Tuesday 30 June at 07:00 CEST (UTC +2), to celebrate Tankfest in Bovington, WG has prepared a special mission where you can earn a 7 days rental of the TOG II and a garage slot,

Requirements:
  •     Tier IV and above only;
  •     Random Battles only;
  •     Once per account.

Conditions:
  • Earn a total of 25,000 XP over any number of battles;
  • Be in the top 10 players on your team by base experience earned (bonuses for the first victory, premium account, etc., will not be counted to determine the rankings).
Note: The garage slot wont be taken away after the rented tank disappears.

They also have 3 not so rare tanks being sold:

O-I 120 Compared to other tanks

Hello Warriors,

Thor_Hammerschlag has a new chart for us, this time with the O-I 120:

The size of the Japanese HT is based on Pasholok's own drawing, so it should be accurate. It is seemingly 0,5m shorter then the T7 (but maybe wider, so it could still be the largest overall).

Insider Info: M4 Revalorisé

 There is some new info:

-The new french tier 8 premium tank (the Sherman with the french gun used by Israel, M4 Revalorisé) will be given to Supertesters soon;
-The expected price will be around the same of a CDC;
-Its unclear yet if its gonna be a reward tank or regular sale;
-And yes, it has puny armor but the gun packs a 400+ hitpoint punch;
-Also the Sherman with the oscillating turret (Israel as well - may come up on french as premium) is being developed.

Tank description

In the 1950s, the M4 Sherman of various modifications was supplied to France as part of MDAP. French design bureaus started modernizing the vehicle with the goal of improving its firepower. This initiative was followed by a modernization program for the Israel Defense Forces (Sherman M51). The tank never saw service in France. The number of prototypes built is unknown.

How to play the 112

Morning lovely Warriors!

This one is back from Tankfest, have some photos for you but before I share I'm catching up with the last days.

One of the WG RU channels posted a video on how to play the 112, there are English Subtitles (and to be honest, I'm not really patient enough to wait sometimes up to 2 months for the English dubbed version):

Love the 112, I like to call this tank "The Fun to play IS-6". :)

No penetration nerf happening, Mauschen not coming

Hello warriors,

here's a surprising turn of events from one of Wargaming's RU staffmembers (the thread where it was got deleted but the North Google cache remembers). Since there is no debunking from Storm available (he usually posts very quickly if such info is false), we have to assume it's the truth.

There will be no penetration nerf AT ALL, since the tests have shown that it didn't work. So no changes planned for now (at least summer and autumn will be without changes).

Also, Mauschen will not be implemented (it will not be in 9.9 test 2 anymore) because it sucks, devs decided not to put it in.

Quick Insider Info

Hello warriors,

just a quick insider info:

- the BT-7A will likely by the Wargaming anniversary gift to players
- AMX 13 57 might be soon back on sale, it will be a limited time bundle

28.06.2015 Q&A

- Q: "9.9 Mauschen sucks" A (Storm): "Do I have to run circles around you the entire weekend while crying for you to be happy?"
- the bug where teamkilling was allowed in 9.9 test was already fixed
- it's possible there is a bug in 9.9 where the aim reticle gets "stuck" to the land, Storm will investigate
- in new motion physics, parameters tied to tank mobility (for example ground resistance) will be reworked
- the AMX 13 57F camouflage is "all-seasonal"

Conqueror 9.9 Armor buff

Thanks to Celestia for providing the screenshots of the Conqueror buff!

New:

- Turret front increased from 152mm front to 254mm (Roughly same effectiveness as the FV215b Heavy)
- Gun Mantlet increased from 203mm to 254mm

Introducing the Yugoslav T-54 SO-18 Mod. tank

27.06.2015 Q&A

Strom announced officially: artillery will undergo a test of changes (a prototype for an overhaul was already decided upon). There will be both a rebalance of vehicles and the addition of new features. The goal is to make the class more comfortable but less irritating for others (it will include timers, removal of oneshots, artillery "lighting up" the square from where it is shooting). ETA: "when it's done it's done"

- multiple players reported test 0.9.9 crashing. This is apparently caused by a faulty update process. In order for the test client not to crash, you have to uninstall it and then download the 0.9.9 test client from scratch - if you update it from the earlier client, it will keep crashing
- American server has the following text in the 0.9.9 report: "If you have already installed the Public Test (a.k.a. "Common Test" or "CT") game client, the launcher will update to the new version automatically" - this is false according to Storm and should be removed
- Storm confirms that in 0.9.9 the Super Pershing, FCM 50T and other premium vehicles were bugged (someone gave them full MM), this will be fixed
- players were annoyed by the fact the Mauschen has one more loader than the VK4502B (that is given out without any perks trained), developers are discussing how to solve this situation
- it's possible (but not decided yet) that some of the new game modes will come for other tanks than just tier 10's
- Storm agrees that small stones hidden in bushes are a problem and need to be eliminated
- there is a bug that shows the AMX 50 100 armor values in hangar as 0, it will be fixed
- HD M10 Panther now has the US star on it
- the T-62A HD turret armor was not nerfed according to Storm

- the fact that AFK Panther radioman was retrained to Panther 88 instead of the AFK Panther replacement (SPIC) is intentional
- alternative hulls are planned for distant future
- one of the alternative hulls will be the M47 hull for the M46 Patton
-  Storm considers current tests to be much less buggy than they used to be (there used to be tests with dozens of critical bugs)
- a bug where the team chat is not working in 9.9 test will be fixed
- SPIC viewrange will be buffed

0.9.10 Pearl River changes video

The previously announced Pearl River changes now have a video.

Artillery poll incoming

Hello, warriors,

The Insider sent me info about an upcoming poll for artillery that will be used to help the developers decide what changes the players want in World of Tanks. This poll will be sent to 11k NA players, 23k EU players, 45k RU players and 5k SEA players. Insider's comments are in italics.

Topics concerning artillery

- "It sucks and I want it gone" - never gonna happen, don't type that on feedback unless you want to stop being selected for future polls
- The most unfair aspects of arty concerning both damage dealing and user experience
- Methods of improving artillery

Note: if you think of AW style of "shoot and be spotted" it won't work for the current WoT mechanic, think about it, I dont see that working at all on maps like Ensk or any kind of small map, please use your own words when describing your ideas, dont use forum copypaste. Minsk will know.

Next is:

- Rate of fire over damage? Or accuracy over damage? Or fine as it is? Arties of every nation have their own quirks and are different from each other, just like the French has superb mobility but so-so damage, the british FV has an amazing gun arc and so on, which tree will you consider the most underwhelming and why?

Minsk will not take in account any poll that does attempt to normalize artillery's nation quirks such as I mentioned above (no arties from different nations should be the same, they are their own experience) and will automatically flag these those answers that contain insults or language that's just offensive.

- Your favourite arty / your least liked one and why?
- Does your clan use artillery on the global map matches? Which ones and on what maps? (this is flagged as important question)

- How many arties you own and from which tree?
- Further random questions included  including game experience and an interesting question:

"Which tech tree would you like to see next in World of Tanks?"

Radio range: 782,1 m

Hull: 200/105 mm
Turret: 200/200 mm

26.06.2015 Q&A

The main news of the day - the missing limited MM on tier 8 premium FCM 50T and the Super Pershing in the 9.9 test turned out to be an error of the test MM. No such changes are planned, it will be fixed.

- Storm is now working almost exclusively on new modes and balance, he has no time for other stuff
- El Halluf in 9.9 has some issue with water render, it was already fixed by the developers
- regarding garage UI, developers are for now planning only new filters
- Storm said he couldn't prove the necessity of multi-layer garage carousel and that's why there will only be filters for now
- Storm will investigate the option to remove the special Domination tanks from the garage now that there are so many
- the way the Mauschen was changed from VK4502B (the owners will receive a free 100 percent but 0 perk loader) was the only way how to solve the situation properly
- 4K textures will not come for now, based on WG statistics of SD and HD client use there is little need for them
- apparently the automatic teamkill ban is disabled on the test, this is a bug
- HD Type 59 will come in 9.10 (it was not delayed, it was always planned like that - the HD model is still not ready, missing some details)
-  Type 59 HD armor will not change
- render multi-threading was not added in 0.9.9
- your selected personal mission has no influence on matchmaking (you won't get "right" or "wrong" maps for your type of mission intentionally)
- Storm states he did not make any promises about players being able to test the Japanese Tiger in 9.9 (it will go straight to shop without players being able to test it)
- M46 turret in HD has a but, the "smile" under it (the frontal part) will be removed and the turret will be set a bit lower
- T32 armor got corrected in 9.9

O-I 120 - Japanese tier 8 heavy

Hello warriors,

here's the first look at regular tier 8 Japanese heavy tank, O-I 120.

Pearl River overhaul in 9.10

Hello warriors,

in 9.10, Pearl River is getting an overhaul:

- Heavy tanks will now spawn in zones 1 in order to make them start faster
- Area 2 was changed in favor of the upper team (more defensive positions)
- Area 3: added a new alternative access to base through the mountains
- Area 4: players can now enter the "balcony"
- Area 5 was completely reworked
- Areas 6 (artillery positions) were changed for both teams
- Area 7 - the mountain was made flatter in order to give both teams the same times to reach the center

9.9 Test Fix

Hello warriors,

just a quick announcement - some players reported last night that the 9.9 test was not functional for them (not starting properly). Try deleting the following files (make backup!), should help:

World_of_Tanks\res\scripts\client\clientunit.рус
World_of_Tanks\res\scripts\client\clientunitmgr.рус
World_of_Tanks\res\scripts\client\clientfortmgr.рус

Storm answers on Beta Tester forums

Hello warriors,

as you probably already know, Storm is answering stuff from time to time in the closed section of Russian forums. Here's what he said about the test 9.9:

- the optimization in 9.9 is nice, go check it out: 10 to 30 percent performance increase on various configurations
- the FV215b HD model is apparently fake, it's a photoshop of the HD Conqueror picture (confirmed it with WG, it's a fake indeed)
- the HD E50, E50M and E75 HD models are delayed. The reason for this is that they are being outsourced to various companies and these outsourcers work with different speeds so all the release plans for specific vehicles got busted. The introduction of vehicles is now practically random, based simply on what HD models arrive first

9.9 FCM 50T nerf

Hello warriors,

it seems that in 9.9 the popular French premium vehicle FCM 50T lost its premium matchmaking and can now meet tier 10 vehicles. This is confirmed:

9.9 Test Server Active

Good evening Warriors.

before heading to bed for tomorrow first big day just want to warn that the 9.9 test server is now active and ready for download.

This are the changes for this patch:

Vehicles:

- Made the following replacements of existing vehicles:

* Spähpanzer SP I.C. replaced the Aufklärungspanzer Panther, German Tier VII light tank.
* Mäuschen replaced the VK 45.02 (P) Ausf. B, German Tier IX heavy tank.

- Reworked 14 vehicles in HD quality: Type 62, AMX 50 100, FCM 50 t, Churchill VII, Caernarvon, Conqueror, Panther/M10, VK 36.01 (H), M6A2E1, T23E3, M46 Patton, T110E3, T110E4, Т-62А
- Significantly increased the front armour protection of the M6A2E1 upon reworking the vehicle in HD quality.
- Fixed the issue with the damage models of 18 vehicles that made the front of the vehicles vulnerable to penetration by guns with low penetration power.
- Improved some characteristics of the following Premium vehicles: STA-2, Type 62, and the T-44-122—the Supertest reward tank.
- Fixed several issues with the models of the M26 Pershing and T-34-85 Rudy.

25.06.2015 Stream

Hello Warriors,

today gonna be doing a extra stream (keeping 3 per week ratio) as from tomorrow I will be spending 3 days at The Tank Museum around the VCC and meeting some of you at Tank Fest.

Ed Francis been teasing this little one so much, he has offered me a ride on the Conq ARV REME:

There is no words to describe how excited I am..! *Sugoi*

But back to streaming, will be a short one and will be busy with my crew completion (Specially the Tortoise one, 98% for the 4th skill already):  http://www.twitch.tv/ritagamer2

25.06.2015 Q&A

What is this? An early Q&A? :)

- Developers will not disclose any more additional statistics for any vehicles (like they did with Maus hit ratios)
- Rita's Status Report O-I size comparison (http://goo.gl/XuGXjM) is more or less accurate according to Storm;
- Tier 10 Japanese heavy is not bigger than the tier 7 leaked vehicle, it's roughly the same;
- The fact certain maps win the "worst map in game" polls often does not guarantee they will be removed from WoT;
- Apparently there is a bug where the old render doesn't display the water properly, Storm will investigate;
- According to Storm, the Domination mode doesn't stress server any more than random battles;
- According to Storm, closed beta of WoT had 10k or so players online, open beta had 30+k and first week after release it was already 50k;
- Yuri Pasholok confirms that there will not be any "Maus going to move" restoration. The project was cancelled soon after it was announced.

And the daily, when you don't upgrade old units in Civ:

9.9 Test Server

Hello Warriors,

little update, according to the leakers, the 0.9.9 test could come later today or tomorrow.

Guns and ammunition

Author:  chickentikka_EU/ Y Liu

I am planning to write a series of articles on common misconceptions regarding tanks. Tell me if you want to see more. (This article is related to my project, so please point out suggestions)

The balance between the power of the main gun (penetration and damage caused) and the effective armor of tanks has been almost in equilibrium for the most part of tank development history. It was after World War II, when the introduction of anti-tank missiles caused the equilibrium to shift towards the offensive. However, obviously armor cannot lag behind the offensive weapons for a long time, so soon composite armor was developed to return the balance. Of course the introduction of ERA and depleted Uranium armor happened to add further shifts in the balance. So I want to resolve some common misconceptions regarding armor and ammunition. (This time round is going to be ammo/gun, maybe armor next time if this article is welcomed).

What do you do to increase penetration? Well, simple, make the caliber bigger and the gun longer! This is true but it depends on the type of ammo. For example, an Indian Army’s T-90S is not going to have the same penetration as Russia’s newest T-90AM although the guns are identical, the shells can make a significant difference. We know that to increase momentum, we have to increase either the mass of the projectile or the velocity, either way we have to increase ammo size or barrel length. The good example is probably the long 8.8cm and the short 8.8cm gun, the longer the barrel, the greater the accuracy and the greater the velocity (in the case of the 8.8cm gun, a longer ammunition is used to pack more punch). However, there is a certain limit to how long the gun can be before it becomes impractical, so engineers after WW2 introduced smooth-bore guns. Smooth-bore is when the barrel no longer has grooves, hence opposite of rifled guns.

L7 rifled gun.

Armored Warfare: T-62

Hello Warriors,

check out this Armored Warfare article about the history of the T-62 and how it got applied in-game:  http://aw.my.com/us/vehicles-focus-t-62

"He climbed out of his tank and looked around. The entire field he had spent two days defending was littered with the corpses of his enemies – some torn apart by explosive shells, some mowed down by the hail of bullets from his tank’s machine gun and some even crushed by its mighty threads. He took off his cap and wandered aimlessly for a while before noticing a battered book lying on the ground. He picked it up and opened it at the last page. It was a diary of sorts, written in a language he recognized instantly – it was the language of his homeland. He started reading..."

Yuri Pasholok's Q&A

Hello warriors,

Yuri Pasholok - Wargaming's historian - answered some more questions!

 - the recently leaked picture by Wargaming is nothing historical, just some thing made up by an artist:

- Yuri is not aware of other SPG projects based on Churchill chassis than the Churchill Gun Carrier. It's possible there were projects for more
- Isreali Centurion engine compartments were standardized for the AVDS-1790-2AC diesel. It is likely not true that the Centurions used captured Soviet tank diesel engines (like the V-55) since putting such an engine in a Centurion would require a significant engine compartment overhaul
- 122mm U-11 on KV-1 in WoT is historical, the project was called KV-9 (was not mass-produced though)
- WG has the Chinese materials on T-34-X tanks, they are very interesting but unfortunately for now there's no right to publish them
- Two variants of Object 430 were indeed discussed, they are mentioned in the accounting archives
- FV304 is a real project and despite its size six people could indeed fit in:

- the Soviet SPG's (such as the Object 261) were projected with existing guns in mind, in this case the B-4. There was also the BR-2 gun with many project as well. As such the appearance of the gun on tiers 7-9 is historical.
- apparently the Chinese "121" is the WZ-121 (the first variant with Chinese 100mm gun). Other guns were intended for the platform as well.
- only little info exists on "Blohn und Voss 1961" tank but enough to reconstruct its appearance apparently if necessary
- there were dozens and dozens of Soviet heavy tank projects from the 50's. Some are still secret however. In the game there are for example 2 IS-7 variants while in real life there were 7 at least
- the IS-3 with BL-9 designation is not completely historical. In 1945 the BL-13 gun was designed for heavy tanks (the same as on Object 260). So basically there was an idea but the plan didn't move any further.
- there was no IS-2 variant with a 152mm gun
- there was no request towards historical department to build a third Soviet medium tank branch
- the third German TD branch is unlikely to come, there is only one more tier 10 TD candidate and it's a copy of an existing one (Jpz E-100 and Jagdmaus). "Why would you need another branch of Waffenträgers without tier 10?" If there will be more German TD's, they will come separately and not as a branch.
- there is no need to expect the M6A2E1 in HD with an advanced (T29) turret, a decision was made to model the vehicle that was actually built in metal
- currently the developers are not working on alternative French TD branch, it would just be a copy of the first one
- there are interesting light vehicle concepts by ARL and FCM as alternatives to the ELC but they have recoilless guns and as such are banned from WoT
- Yuri Pasholok on British light tank branch to tier 8: "As far as I know, they collected enough material for it already a long time ago."
- restoration of Maus "project" was closed and does not continue
- Yuri does not know whether WG will have another tank restored to function. He personally works on restoring an armored cutter (a ship) but that's a different group of volunteers

24.06.2015 Q&A

Drama of the day on Russian server: Wargaming started forcibly renaming 0 battle accounts in order to free their desired names and announced this event on their portal, advertising players to rename their accounts to one of the "freed" names (for gold, of course). The "abandoned accounts" were defined as "All the accounts registered on 1.4.2014 or earlier, the owners of which never entered a single battle in any Wargaming game." Unfortunately the mechanism didn't work properly and the 0 battle accounts were not renamed. Much whine ensued.

- The Domination mode (patch 0.9.8.1) had no influence on FPS - if your FPS dropped with 0.9.8.1, it's most likely an issue on your side;
- The size comparison picture between O-I and E-100 is a fake;
- The Scorpion (German TD) tracks have apparently an incorrect model, it will be fixed.

And the daily will be a bit different, check out what Ed Francis from The Tank Museum is teasing me with:

That Tank melody...

False info - vehicles not planned

Hello warriors,

the usual leaker sites are often right about upcoming vehicles but sometimes they are wrong. For an official fan site to be wrong however is not that common. WoT Polska FB group published an information that two interesting vehicles are planned for World of Tanks and are soon to be implemented:

- Object 701-1 (IS-4 prototype)
- Leopard prototype C (Borgward)

Unfortunately this info is false. While the vehicles were considered, the developers decided not to implement them. Either way other interesting vehicles are planned.

23.06.2015 Q&A

Not much for today:

- Q: "Why did you not inform players of massive penetration nerf at 500 meters?!" A: "Everywhere I look, it's (whine about) 'no respect to players' - it's some sort of mania. We fucked up and you are immediately looking for malice."

And Ed Francis has a response for the "What Tank is it?" post: "Your viewers don't disappoint! It is the prototype model for the Vickers MBT Mk4"

Scale model of the Vickers Mk. 4
He will be doing more challenges for you in the future. Good job guys!  :)
